Cockles and mussels
The activity of the day to day life on the Lagoon of Obidos always draws my attention. I constructed this painting from two scenes I witnessed and combined them later in one work. The picture describes mid-morning sun breaking through the haze. Amid the silence a lone figure prods and swishes the sand and mud for tonight’s shellfish supper.
This is a large painting (120 X 90 cms.) and has been produced in acrylics with an under painting and impasto layering techniques applied with palette knives and large hog-hair brushes. This work is on canvas which is stretched over a thicker and more durable box frame.
